My Mentor, Phil Nagy
I asked Phil Nagy to be my mentor for the capstone project that was for my senior year (that's the reason I even started this website). He was the manager for Threat Level Midnight, and had been since day one. Mr. Nagy is truly a role model that guides me to this day. He has been a professional musician since he was 14 years old. He was in several bands doing covers and original songs. He plays in the Blue Kings band. The Blue Kings band is a band that you audition to be in, and people choose you to play at their weddings/parties, and you get rated for how well you do, and you get money based off of that. Mr. Nagy is a teacher in the Hilliard City School District, mainly at the ILC, teaching kids about music theory, and how to be in a band. Mr. Nagy teaches both the Music Industry course, and co-teaches Media Com. He teaches us how to record in a studio, how to perform live, and gives grades on theory, performance, contribution to the class, or for a certain project. Mr. Nagy has influenced me greatly. He tells me stories of when he plays, where he plays, who he performs with, how they perform, and there honestly isn't anything that's boring about him. He influences me to push harder as a musician, and always has answers to my questions. He is very kind hearted, funny, and a great teacher. I'm not an easy student because I have a certain way that I learn, and he picked up on that immediately. Thanks to him, my experience in high school had been a great one. The classes I look forward to are always ILC and choir. Mr. Nagy shows that he cares for each and every student, no matter what kind of people they are. He takes everything you say into account, and will never leave you in an uncomfortable situation. Mr. Nagy has taught me to be a better musician, a better performer, and definitely a better person. There is absolutely no other mentor I would've chosen for the senior capstone. He is the other co-worship leader (pretty much the main leader) of the worship band that we're in. He recruited me after I graduated from high school. Super grateful for him for that opportunity!
